Engagement sessions in other countries are always a crazy adventure, and this one was no exception. We decided to go on this adventure a couple days before Jean & Nic got married, seeing as as were in such a beautiful place we thought we may as well take advantage of it. The best man from the wedding had rented a car for the week and offered to be our chaffuer for the evening. We left the town of Vieux Fort St.Lucia in search of some old sugar mills that Jean really wanted to find for the shoot. Turns out, mountain in roads in St.Lucia, cause not only a lot of car sickness, but also they make google maps not function properly. So… we got a little lost, and realized that the mill was much further then we thought, and there was no way we could make it there before the sun went down. So I made a fast decision when we drove by this tiny little village and asked if we could do the session here instead. When we got out of the car we were happily greeted by the locals. This town of Canaries is a small, very small, fishing town. It was full of locals hanging out, men fishing, kids and puppies running around the beach, and many many smiles. This happy accident could not have turned out any better if we tried. The light was amazing, one of the local men walked us around and gave us a little tour, basically everything was just perfect. We took the last few photos as the sun was going down, and drove back home the windy hilly roads in the dark. This was one of those times as a photographer, where you to start to feel the pressure, the light was disappearing, and I didn’t want to disappoint my clients. I made a fast gut decision, and I was sure happy that I did.
