Taste of Alaska Lodge winter wedding

Last year I got a phone call from Kori and Adam all the way from Georgia, asking if I would go with them to Fairbanks Alaska and shoot their very small destination wedding in a freezing cold snowy winter wonderland. We instantly connected and 8 weeks later I was a on a crazy adventure to a place in the world that I never thought I would go to.  As soon as I booked the wedding I remembered that I had a friend living and working at the University in Fairbanks. I gave her a call and arranged to visit and stay with her. And the best bonus of this whole trip was that I got to bring my very best friend in the whole world along with me as my assistant.

So we snow suited up, and flew to Alaska. We arrived at night time after 3 stopovers and 20 hours worth of flights and made our first stop at the top of a hill to see some northern lights, then made our way to our friends beauty little cabin tucked into a forest. I have never experience such cold and such beauty at the same time. It literally felt like we were in a snow globe the whole time. Absolutely everything was frosted in white. We spent our first day, touring around, location scouting, eating and trying to stay warm.

On the morning of the wedding day we arrived at Adam and Kori’s adorable little cabin. Kori was a bit stressed because the hairdresser cancelled last minute, so I just rolled up my sleeves found some bobby pins and hairspray and became hairdresser + photographer! We spent the whole day with them laughing, crying, taking pictures, but mostly laughing. The weather was sooooooo extremely cold that you really couldn’t be outside for more than a couple minutes at a time, and Kori in her bare armed wedding dress could last maybe 1 min at the most. So we did a lot of jumping in out of cars and trying to get her to look comfortable in photos! She was a champ and suffered through freezing cold for the sake of beautiful images. And it was so worth it. The whole day was amazing, and in the winter in Alaska the light looks like golden hour all day long, it was the most incredibly soft warm light I have ever shot in.
