January can be a tricky month for a lot of people.

January can be a tricky month for a lot of people. Every single year for me it starts off with a few days of being kinda down. Work is slow, it’s cold out, holidays are over, always takes me a bit to get back into my groove. This year though, thanks to my lovely buddy @maryzitapaynephotography I have filled my downtime with creative and collaborative projects that have brought me so much joy and so many ideas. Mary and I spent a couple weeks building new sets and props together for our studios. And today we treated ourselves with getting our makeup done by @illumeroom and shooting portraits all day long. It was pretty much my dream day, dancing around and laughin with Mary, trying on outfits and testing our new lighting set ups. I feel like a pretty lucky gal to have such friends in my life who I can brainstorm with and grow our ideas and business’s together!

My heart is thinking about travel right now. I can’t believe it was over 4 years ago that I traveled to Italy to one of the most magical places I’ve ever been. @castellodipotentino filled with chefs and lovers of food from around the world. And I got to spend a week documenting it all and taking beautiful portraits of each person there. Sometimes it still feels like a dream.

10 years ago I started a 365 day self portrait pro

10 years ago I started a 365 day self portrait project that I still haven’t finished. I made it to 8 months. All the images in his post are from said project) I’m really really good at starting projects 😜
I was feeling nostalgic this morning and I was looking back at the images I took of myself, and thinking about how much has changed.
I think almost everything has changed, my body, my relationships, my age, my faith, the people I trust and love, the things that bring me joy, and absolutely the way we all function in society. And I of course have deeply changed with those things. I’m proud of my old self for doing such a good job with what she knew, and how she spent so many years making me who I am now, today. She made so many mistakes, dealt with heartbreak and love, was naive but also courageous, was scared but always found safety, she taught me how to live boldly.
And now I am almost 40 years old, and I don’t go through life pretending that things are the same. I’ve grown and stretched and learned. I try my best to show up whole heartedly, vulnerable, awkward, and a little afraid. I feel changed, I feel loved, I feel wild,
I often feel sad, but also feel so much joy and gratitude. I feel changed.

Rachel and Josh are good friends, and also wedding

Rachel and Josh are good friends, and also wedding photographers who live in Rochester NY. Our first session was 7 years ago when they traveled to Iceland with me for an engagement shoot, then a few months later the eloped and took me with them to the west coast of Canada. Now, they are having a little one, and we kept up the cold windy beach theme that we have had in all of our shoots together, and met at Lake Ontario in October, and froze our little butts off for the sake of art. It was so worth it!!
These two are going to be the most wonderful parents, I cannot wait to meet their babe and continue to document their lives together.
