Ania and Robert invited me up north of Peterborough last week for this kick ass cottage engagement session. These two are fantastic, I have met them throughout the last years at a few different friends weddings, and this year I get the pleasure of shooting their wedding. They met and have been dating since high school, and have travelled all over the world on many adventures together. This shoot started off with a very romantic intention of heading up a trail where Robbie has proposed to Ania last year. We got out of the car and started up the trail to quickly discover the bugs were so unbearably bad it was almost impossible to do the shoot, we swatted at bugs and tried to look peaceful and happy between all the aggravation. After about 20 minutes, we gave up and went back to the car to find a new spot. Luckily we found this dock with the sun setting right behind it, the light could not have been more perfect. As we were standing on the end of the dock, I said to them ” hey guys what do you think about jumping in the lake with your clothes on?” They both started laughing and said ” yes, we’ll do it!” I love it sooooooooo much when I make ridiculous suggestions and clients actually go for it, it always makes for the best and most authentic photos. As soon as the decision was made to jump in, I don’t think the laughter stopped for about the next 20 minutes while they splashed around in their clothes then changed in the parking lot. We headed back to their cottage and made it just in time for that last lovely blue light of the evening. Then we sat and had beers and talked about how much fun the wedding was going to be. Sessions like this keep my smiling for days!
