This Toronto Jewish Wedding at Shaarei Shomayim was one of the last weddings I shot in 2015. It was also my first Modern Orthodox Jewish Wedding. I was so excited when I was contacted by Gabi and Yaakov to shoot their wedding. Here is quote from them that they used to post a photo after the wedding
“When We found @ashnaylerphotography through a buzzfeed article of the best photographers, we were blown away by her talent and knew we needed her for our own wedding. Best decision we made…aside from getting married and all”
Being found through such an article made me more then happy! I was also super pumped for the challenge to shoot a wedding where the ceremony did not start until sundown. Which meant that all photos of the bride and groom together would have to be shot once it was dark out… and it was winter! I happily took the challenge and was excited to see what I could come up with. Most of the weddings I shoot are outside in fields or forests, which make taking pretty photos very easy. I really had to push my brain to get creative and come up with beautiful images inside and outside of one building in the cold and the dark. Gabi and Yaakov were wonderful and trusting, and made our job very easy.
Things I learned from this wedding:
1. Jewish weddings are awesome and full and busy and I love them.
2. Shooting after dark is something that I can do, and I’m proud of what I came up with.
3. Experiencing other cultures is a huge perk of my job.
4. I really really want to shoot more Jewish weddings!
